Colorful, handwoven carpets adorn Otavalo's Saturday market in the northern part of Ecuador. This market is known as being one of the largest handicrafts market in South America. Stalls filled with weavings, embroidery, hand woven carpets, t-shirts, jewelry, ceramics, wood carvings and every other type of handicraft fills the Plaza de Ponchos and takes over the surrounding streets. Most of the vendors are indigenous people from nearby villages and towns.
