Kherson_region
The old iron bridge in Genichesk is an significant site of european cultural heritage. The construction of this bridge was first developed during the First World War, by Austrian engineer Friedrich Roth. Before the Second World fourteen bridges of that type had been built. The bridges were constructed by engineering company «Waagner-Biró» from Vienna. Founded in 1854 by Mr.Waagner from Austria and Mr.Biro from Hungary, the company engaged in building of variety metal structures. The company still exists nowadays and has been involved in the construction of the new dome for the Bundestag in Berlin, dome of British Museum, «Mari-Axe» skyscraper, also known as "cucumber" (in London), scenes for Sydney Opera House, and hundreds more modern architectural masterpieces. Before the First World War young Austrian engineer Friedrich Roth suggest the structure of demountable railway bridge (kind of "Lego" type principle), which requires minimum of assembly equipment and time. So the Roth-Waagner system appeared for a quick replacement of old wooden bridges. The bridge of this design came to Genichesk from Belarus — it was built during the war by German engineers over the Dnieper in the city of Orsha. And in 1951 it was transferred to Genichesk, where there was a necessity to repair the damaged bridge over Tonkiy Strait to the Arabat Spit. Currently is an issue of how to keep the old bridge from the dismantling, turning it into an interesting art object Genichesk. Enthusiasts of URBAN COYC put into practice the action of doing selfie with the Bridge.
