During our July 2026 trip to Bonaire, I captured four 360° panoramas at Playa Chikitu during our first visit to Washington Slagbaai National Park. Reaching this remote shoreline involves a long, bumpy drive through one of the island’s most rugged and striking landscapes, where the surf and wind shape a dramatic stretch of coast. This area is under strict environmental protection due to an active coral disease affecting the region. Diving is prohibited, with access limited only to authorized local divers for activities such as annual lionfish cleanups and scientific monitoring. Because of the disease risk, specialized gear‑cleaning procedures are required for anyone who does enter the water along this coast, ensuring no pathogens are carried to other dive sites around the island.
