The Traunstein is a 1691 m high mountain in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria. Located near Lake Traunsee, the prominent peak is a popular destination for hikers as it offers spectacular views of the Salzkammergut, the Alps and the Alpine foothills.
The summit cross is 10 meters high and was erected in 1948. In just two days, 520 men and 80 women carried all 4,000 parts of the cross as well as the cement and water for the base to the summit.
