We hiked up to Vaipo Falls - the tallest waterfall in French Polynesia - located in Nuku Hiva of the Marquesas. We started from our boat anchored in Daniel's Bay by taking our dinghy up the river nearby. Then we walked up through the village and up a trail about 3 miles. This photo is main pool below the falls. There was a drought when we went, so there wasn't much water falling. This also made it more practical to climb over the rocks and into the pools directly below where the falls normall fall. Very cool place! You can see folks from several boats including: "Tahina", "A Small Nest", "Quarter Moon", "Elena", and "Asia".
Thousands of kilometres from anywhere, French Polynesia is the place to indulge yourself. Tahiti evokes images of tropical fruit dripping from strange trees... of translucent, shimmering aqua lagoons... of sun-drenched, sandy beaches, and psychedelic coral. A visit to Tahiti and her islands is akin to stumbling upon a parallel universe where fantasy is just another form of reality and hedonistic daydreams come to life. French Polynesia has captivated the world's imagination since 19th-century European explorers first set foot upon her steamy shores."
