Northeast side Pahvant Butte, Utah, USA
Utah

Pahvant Butte is a volcano that erupted around 15,500 years ago from under Lake Bonneville - the massive freshwater lake that covered a good part of Utah at the time and was the parent of the present day Great Salt Lake. Now, Pahvant Butte sits high and dry in the Sevier desert, northwest of Fillmore, Utah and southeast of Delta, Utah.

All the rocks here are basalt derived.  The gray-black rocks here are ash.  The tan-orange rocks are palagonite, a rock formed by basalt when it interacts with water during its eruption.
