Here on the border between Austria and Slovakia, the march flows into the danube.

The castle stands on a cliff (212 m) on Slovak territory.
Until 1989, the Iron Curtain between the Eastern Bloc and the West ran just in front of the castle on the river banks.
The castle was first mentioned in written sources in 864.
In the 13th century, a stone castle was built.
