The building was built in the Soviet era in 1981, according to the project of the chief architect S. M. Șoihet. Before that, circus performances were held in temporary facilities. According to contemporary sources, the Chisinau circus was the fourth in the world and the first in the Soviet Union in terms of beauty and capacity of spectators.
