Flowering Grass Trees in Grampians National Park
Grampians National Park

Panorama of dry woodlands with flowering grass trees (Xanthorrhoea Australis) along the Boronia Peak walking track in the Grampians National Park near Halls Gap, Victoria, Australia.

Grass Trees are very slow growing plants which only grow about one metre over 100 years and can live for up to 600 years. The flower spear is a food source for nectar feeding birds, bees, ants and butterflies. For Aborigines who inhabited this area for thousands of years before European settlement, the grass trees were a staple plant providing food, drink, fibre and materials for making implements.
