Mowbray Gardens

Sited just off the main shopping area to Sunderland, Mowbray Gardens comprises the refurbishment of the existing Sunderland Museum and the construction of an adjoining Winter Gardens together with general improvements within Mowbray Park.

Across the lake from the Winter Gardens is a life-size bronze walrus cast by artist Andrew Burton. This sculpture being inspired by a story that

the Lewis Carroll wrote the poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter" in his book Alice Through the Looking Glass after seeing a stuffed walrus in
the lobby of the original Sunderland Museum.
