Mt Buffalo Chalet
Victoria

Built in 1910 by the Victorian Government as Australia’s first ski resort, the Mount Buffalo Chalet is a heritage-listed timber icon of the Victorian Alps. Operated for decades as a popular year-round destination, it was managed by Victorian Railways from 1924 to the 1980s. Since closing in 2007, the Chalet has been under a 40-year refurbishment lease for educational use. Known as the “island in the sky” and the “grand old dame” of the Alps, it remains one of Victoria’s most significant historic buildings.

Victoria's mainland and islands have a total length of 2,512 kilometres coastline which is about 4.2% of Australia's 59,736 kilometres of coastline. Australia is the driest inhabited continent and Victoria is no exception although the state capital Melbourne has the reputation to have 4 seasons in one day. Victoria is located in the southeast of mainland Australia and includes the most southern point on mainland Australia at Wilsons Promontory National Park.
