大約在第三區的中段附近，本地球石是結核的傑作，這訴說著岩石就像有生命似的經歷了成長，茁壯和凋零，的生命週期，可看出大自然用幾千萬年的時間雕琢，直到今天仍沒有停止，這也表示野柳岬的地景是生動的，永遠生生不息。

完整的圓球結核，有如明珠，所以又稱珠石。
