The Gardens of the Slovak National Uprising (Sad Slovenského národného povstania) is the oldest park of Žilina. They were created in the late 19th century between Všivák stream (later redirected underground parallel to the park) and a row of Art Nouveau villas.
One of the landmarks of the park is a beautiful fountain "The Žilina virgins" by Vladimir Kompánek, a prominent Slovak artist from nearby Rajec. Originally it stood on Hlinka Square, and was moved to the park during the reconstruction
