With the Monaco & Provence section, Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg has realized one of its most technically ambitious projects to date. After eleven years of development, the section was officially opened in April 2024 by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène.
Here are the most exciting facts for your video:
The Heart of the Display: Formula 1
World First: This racetrack is not a traditional slot car track. The cars drive without any guide rails or visible cables. They are controlled by a complex magnetic field under the road surface known as Halbach Arrays.
Real Racing: There is no fixed script. The 14 racing cars (including famous models from Red Bull and Mercedes) calculate their overtaking maneuvers, braking distances, and pit stops in real-time.
Precision: The technology is so finely tuned that the cars can race past each other with millimeter precision.
Facts & Figures
Construction Costs: Over €5 million (a large portion of which was spent on developing the racing technology).
Area: Approximately 70 m², encompassing the city of Monaco, the harbor, and the Provence hinterland.
Details: Over 350 buildings, 8,000 figures, and 175 yachts in the harbor basin.
Labor: A total of around 150,000 working hours went into this section.
Model Highlights
The Jet-Set Life: You will find the famous Prince's Palace, the Monte Carlo Casino, and the Oceanographic Museum, which is spectacularly built into the cliffs.
Day & Night Cycle: Monaco is especially breathtaking at night, illuminated by thousands of LED lights in the luxury hotels and along the racetrack.
Provence: As a contrast to the bustling energy of Monaco, this area features lavender fields, small mountain villages, and the typical charm of the South of France.
