早年南港埤塘遍布，是民生與灌溉用水的來源，隨著都市發展與經濟轉型，埤塘逐一消失，位於昆陽公園旁的新庄仔埤為南港三大埤塘之一，因多數範圍劃入軍事管制區域的隔絕與低度開發，使得水域與周邊淺山環境維持著相對自然的環境，不僅是臺北市內僅存少數的埤塘地景，更是南港202兵工廠及周邊重要濕地，珍貴的水域及周邊保存良好的林相，成為臺北市許多生物棲息的環境。
