In San Frediano's square is situated the Basilica, a romanesque church with a monumental golden mosaic on the façade dating to the end of the 13th century. The tradition say that San Frediano himself built the church; he was bishop of Lucca from 560 to 588. In Tuscany only another churc presents a mosaic in the façade: the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte.
