跟隨著鐵路交通的建設，菁桐最熱鬧的老街，就位於菁桐車站的出口處，由於外來遊客越來越多，因此附近商家也都改做起觀光生意，地方小吃、農特產品，以及紀念品店，也都各有特色，而不知道從什麼時候開始，菁桐地區開始流行起讓遊客在竹筒上寫上祈禱語，吊掛在鐵軌兩旁，隨著遊客的撥弄就會扣扣作響，不知情的人還會以為有人穿木屐在街上行走呢！
