在東北季風多風多雨的影響，節理經風化作用及雨水侵蝕後，造成岩石內部含鐵礦逐漸氧化，形成有如細緻編織的氧化鐵的帶狀花紋。而節理面及岩層鬆軟的部份，在侵蝕作用下崩壞掉落，產生凹凸不平的表面，加上風化作用的影響，使得南雅的岩石色彩有了深淺不同的改變。
