傅園傅園，除了是珍貴的熱帶植物標傅園原本是臺北帝國大學理農學部的熱帶植物園。

由於臺灣大學第四任校長傅斯年先生在擔任校長之職不到兩年的時間之內，為臺大樹立非常重要的學術典範和自由風氣，卻因病逝世於當時的臺灣省議會(1950年12月20日)。

臺大人為紀念傅校長，在與各界及傅校長家屬討論後，決定於臺大校內擇處安葬。
