成立於1978年的臺電興達發電廠位於永安區與茄萣區交界處，廠區面積達135公頃，是全國第二大電廠，也是南台灣最重要的火力發電廠之一。廠內設有4部燃煤機組和5部燃天然氣的復循環發電機組，佔全臺灣電力系統總出力約七分之一。廠區環境優美、草木扶疏，並設有多項休閒設施，2003年始開放民眾參觀。
