Middle Palisade (14012'/4271m) summit, Big Pine, CA, USA (gigapixel)
California

Gigapixel view from the top of Middle Palisade (elev. 14,012') in the Sierra Nevada near Big Pine, California.  One of California's 15 named 14ers, the peak is a Class 3 scramble from the standard gully to the northeast, though it can be somewhat exposed.  The peak is in the midst of The Palisades, a crest of high peaks spanning from North Palisade to the north to Split Mountain (South Palisade) looking south.  It sits on the boundary b/w the John Muir Wilderness & Kings Canyon National Park.  Distant views south towards Mt. Whitney & Williamson Mountain while views to the west peer into the heart of Kings Canyon National Park.  Directly to the north is Norman Clyde Peak as well as Mt. Sill off of North Palisade.  Good views of the Owens Valley, the White Mountains, & the Inyo Mountains looking eastward.  Like many peaks in the region, Middle Palisade is a jumble of large boulders w/ one boulder marking the specific summit.  The affixed metal register was placed by the Sierra Club in 1936.
