After about a 13km walk, mountain bike or 4WD ride from Arrowtown you come to Macetown. An old gold mining area which flourished with a population of around 300 in the late 1800's. Long since deserted. The journey by 4WD crosses the river 22 times though you can walk or even bike in and keep your feet relatively dry thanks to bridges and special bypass tracks. This image was made on a reasonably mild June 2021 my bike and I were covered in mud by the time I got back to Arrowtown.
