Exploring History: Inside the M3 Lee at Cairns Tank Museum
Australia

I wanted to share an interesting experience from my recent visit to the Tank Museum in Cairns. The highlight was the M3 Lee tank, a relic from World War II. While exploring its exterior, I noticed an access door ajar on the mid-left side. Although entry wasn't permitted, my 360 camera allowed me to peer into the confined interior.

What struck me was the evident challenge of accommodating a seven-man crew within the limited space. The logistics of maneuvering and operating within such quarters seemed intricate, to say the least. It's fascinating how functionality took precedence over comfort in the design.

The hull-mounted 75 mm gun and turret-mounted 37 mm gun showcased the tank's firepower, but it also emphasized the cramped conditions the crew endured. Utilizing the 360 camera offered a unique perspective, highlighting the sacrifices and resourcefulness of those who operated these war machines.

It's a vivid reminder of the human aspect behind the machinery, and I couldn't help but reflect on the courage and resilience of the individuals who served in these challenging roles.

More About Australia

There are no kangaroos in Austria. We're talking about Australia, the world's smallest continent. That being cleared up, let's dive right in! Australia is a sovereign state under the Commonwealth of Nations, which is in turn overseen by Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth. The continent was first sighted and charted by the Dutch in 1606. Captain James Cook of Britain came along in the next century to claim it for Britain and name it "New South Wales." Shortly thereafter it was declared to be a penal colony full of nothing but criminals and convicts, giving it the crap reputation you may have heard at your last cocktail party. This rumor ignores 40,000 years of pre-European human history, especially the Aboriginal concept of Dreamtime, an interesting explanation of physical and spiritual reality. The two biggest cities in Australia are Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney is more for business, Melbourne for arts. But that's painting in very broad strokes. Take a whirl around the panoramas to see for yourself! Text by Steve Smith.
