I got my first camera to my children's first communion. If I remember correctly, it was a simple roll film camera by Kodak with a 6 * 6 roll. Later, i am acquired the first SLR camera as a family camera. In the youth, we had been much experimenting with aperture, Exposure time and flash. Steps in the black and withe - laboratory were also present. But with the chemistry I did not have it in such a way.

Now, professional life began. In the past 25 years I've scurrying me in the IT - industry and left little time for photography.

When the first affordable and useful digital cameras came on the market, around the turn of the millennium, I jumped on. I was fascinated by the opportunity to get my photographed pictures going directly into the computer. My first digital was the compact camera Canon G2. Also this camera had in 2002 a panorama function, which has received the panoramic virus in me.

My name is Paul O'Connell, I'm a commercial and creative photographer from Dublin, Ireland

Cave exploration has been a passion of mine for over 25 years, and 360 panoramic photography is the ideal way to capture these amazing places (despite the rather difficult challenge of photographying panoramas far underground in complete darkness). It was my desire to capture images of caves in this way which led me to learn how to take panoramas. I am based in the UK, but my main exploration area is in Cantabria, Spain where British cavers have been discovering and mapping caves for over 40 years.

I am a licenced RPAS operator

I have always loved taking shots while out on walks and at church or family events. But near the end of 2015, I finally upgraded from point-n-shoots to a mirrorless Samsung NX500.  Then in late 2019 I moved to a Sony a7rIII.  When shooting panoramas, I use a homemade panohead with a Gemtune DH-55 panoramic ball head, a Samyang 18mm f/2.8 lens and shoot 4 rows of 12 bracketed pictures each. I used to use a Rokinon 12mm f/2 manual lens on the old NX500, and shoot 3 rows of 10 pictures each. Batch HDR processing is done in Photomatix Pro and cleanup in Lightroom, before stitching with PTGui. I don't shoot zenith or nadir shots. So, to remove the tripod from the final PTGui image, I take it into Photoshop and used Flaming Pear's Flexy2 filter and content-aware fill.

I'm approaching retirement and am looking to expand my photographic skills into a new field (for me) for 360 imagery.
